Ghiordes Knot Student Design Competition
Spring 2017
Software used: None, hand sketch with ink and color pencils
The Ghiordes Knot Student Creative Space competition required students to create an aesthetic space with the Kerman rug as the focal point of the design. This Kerman rug has extensive details and color pallet. I spent 5 hours just to hand draw this rug. The end result was an intensive sense of satisfactions. With all the detailed patterns, color tones, position of each pattern, and the honest representation of the Kerman rug personality, it was a very rewarding experience for me to design a space with this rug as a focal point. In order to highlight the rug I designed a living room with very simple line and structure. White plaster wall with white concrete floor are the main structure. White leather sofa with a few colorful pillows provide the sense of comfort for the space. Modern style in this space contrasts the classical Kerman rug with a goal to spot light the rug.
