Being vacant for decades the Detroit Dry Dock building is ready for a new life. The city of Detroit has been through traumatic culture and economic changes. Population has been declining since 1950. 33.4% of households have children 18 years old or younger, and 31 % of households have female householders without husbands. Detroit's mean income is below the US average by thousands. 1 in 3 residents in the city are under poverty. However, music and art enriched the city. With various visionary developers and investors pouring their hearts into Detroit the city is transforming.
The Detroit Dry Dock renovation provides an opportunity for Detroit community. Based on the research finding, the design team is committed to transform this vacant building into a community center for the resident in Detroit. Farm to table restaurant provides organic healthy food. The wellness center is a safe place for personal training and cooking lessons. The teen center provides a safe and fun place for the teens to hang out, do homework and perform music.
After all, this community center is a safe place for the people of Detroit to improve their life style.
